Artist's Statement

I have wanted to be an artist since my early childhood and I have been a student of light, and its many manifestations for the greater part of my adult life. I became enamored by the paintings of Mark Rothko, Modrian and Joseph Albers. It was in Albers that light became a science and the pursuit was optics.
All during this time I was a poet and the idea that I could be both visual and verbal was a constant challenge. I was encouraged by a friend to try digital imaging and what followed was an immensely rewarding experience. It was like learning to walk all over again and I was overwhelmed. As I progressed I realized that I was being afforded opportunities no master in prior times could have even conceived of.

In the same way that ‘montage’ is used to describe film editing that is done poetically; I sense that my images blend motion and color. Many of them await a musical score and stand ready to blend with a new harmonic. They are expressions of joy and are ready to reveal that magic to people of any age or persuasion.

Over the last year the success of the Joy-For-The-Eye site has been a constant source of reassurance and delight. I have received visits from all over the world and many people have expressed their heartfelt appreciation for my work. The state of the art in digital has really progressed and many people who are only interested in getting a screen saver should look into buying a print if they can. The reason for this is that the state of the art in printing, with the Epson 9600 and Parrot Ultramat canvas makes the finished art object much more lovely to behold in the flesh, larger and up on your wall. The colors are much more vivid, as is the total aesthetic experience. Digital is undeniably the place to be for anyone who wants to push the edge and I thank all of you who have enjoyed my work and hope you continue to find it exciting, as I put up new pieces in the coming year.
